Twice a year members of the Syracuse Pulp and Paper Foundation (SPPF) come to SUNY-ESF for their meeting. In the Fall Semester their visit includes an evening speaker presentation from a Foundation member. This event is always well attended.
The speaker this year was Jay Jansen, a SPPF member and ’84 ESF alumnus, who spoke to the students about teamwork. It wasn’t a presentation for sitting and/or falling asleep. Jay had the students out of their chairs doing teamwork and group dynamics exercises. Students are exploring the topic of teamwork this semester in their core competencies class and will also take a weekend this Fall Semester at a ropes course.
The following day was a sit-down student recognition luncheon where students, faculty and members of SPPF enjoyed a meal together while scholarships were awarded and selected seniors gave short talks to the attendees.
Reminder to students: take the time to follow-up on the conversations you had with SPPF members. And, if you are on campus today, come to the Joachim Speaker Series in 210 Walters at 12:45. The speaker will be reviewing ways to use LinkedIn for networking and the job search.
