Welcome to the blog for the Department of Paper and Bioprocess Engineering (PBE) at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. We are located in Walters Hall. Stop on by. We’d like to show you around!

On these pages you’ll find glimpses into the world of faculty and student research and get updated on recent developments in paper and bioprocess engineering.  You’ll read student impressions of coursework and summer internship experiences and also find coverage of departmental events. Present students – this is your showcase. Past students – come here to stay informed and involved. Potential students – let us show you what we have to offer!

We have the country’s oldest continuously operating degree-granting program in Paper Engineering. Since our inception in 1920 we have been at the forefront of defining the frontiers of the field.

Continuing this tradition of academic leadership, we launched a new major in 2006 leading to a bachelor’s degree in Bioprocess Engineering—the first and only program of its kind in the northeastern United States. This program trains engineers who will work in the emerging bioprocessing and biofuels industry to produce energy and related chemical products, including pharmaceuticals, from renewable resources. It is a natural complement to our history and expertise in the paper and allied chemical fields.
